Akhenaten was an Egyptian pharaoh who ruled the country for about 17 years between about 1353 BC. in 1335 BC
As a religious reformer, he made Athens, the sun disk, the center of Egyptian religious life, and performed an iconoclasm in which the names of Amun, the most important Egyptian god, and his wife Mut were erased from monuments and documents throughout Egypt. empire. He is famous for changing the traditional religion of Egypt from the worship of many gods to the worship of a single god named Aten.
When he ascended the throne, his name was Amenhotep IV, but in the sixth year of his reign he changed it to “Akhenaten”, a name roughly translated by the late Egyptologist Dominic Montserrat as “Benevolent of (or for) Athens”. Akhenaten married Nefertiti before or shortly after becoming a pharaoh, who is portrayed in some works of art as equal to her husband. Some have even speculated that she may have become the co- or even sole ruler of Egypt.
