Ibeji is an orisha that symbolizes twins in the Yoruba religion, derived from the Yoruba words “ibi” meaning born, and “eji” meaning two. It is believed that they are supernatural beings with an inseparable soul and are protected by Sango, the deity of thunder.
They are also believed to have the power to bring great wealth to their families or misfortune to those who do not honor them. When an Ibeji passes away, they are honored with carved memorial figures known as “ere,” which means sacred image.
