A Ritual Chalice is a special cup, a vessel for special occasions. This ceremonial goblet has a freely drawn siren, a mermaid in white and turquoise slip. Selkies are mythological beings capable of changing from seal to human form by shedding their skin. The folk-tales frequently revolve around female selkies being coerced into relationships with humans by someone stealing and hiding their sealskin, thus exhibiting the tale motif of the swan maiden type.
This chalice has Incised wave lines are on the cobalt blue base with a textured raised finger ridge. This chalice has my smooth buttermilk glaze, which shows the iron spots of reduction flame firing. Lined with the same smooth buttermilk glaze it is easy to clean and great for your table or your altar.
This is a perfect size for at least six to ten people in ceremony or a toast at 7 inches tall, by 4 inches wide at the base. Holds 16 ounces. It is thrown in two pieces and joined, light and comfortable in the hand.
