“Treasures are hidden away in quiet places. They speak in soft tones and often become silenced as we approach. They don’t beg to be found, but embrace us if we do happen to find them. They are the product of completely ordinary circumstances unfolding in wonderfully extraordinary ways. They are found hidden in the nooks and crannies of our existence; all around us if we quit allowing our attention to be captivated by that which is noisy and listen for that which is quiet and still.”― Craig D. Lounsbrough
When holding this museum quality treasure in your hands, you have to wonder “Who held this before? What did they drink from it?” Unearthed from Peru or Mexico, the examples I researched show slightly similar examples with similar paint colors and styles from around 1890-1910.
Standing 8″ tall with a ringed opening graduating to a small neck, a handle with built in spout, and a fat bulbous body of a 15 3/4″ circumference. The bottom is 3 1/2″ across, and it weighs approximately 580 grams.
There is a chip on the top neck’s rim of the jug, the llama or other natural animal rope around the neck is frayed and dirty, the jug has ample aging from the elements and time. Most collectors agree that flaws add to the value of these types of pieces, so please ask questions prior to purchase if you need details.
It is a warm to the touch terra cotta pottery, made from regional clay. The tie is silk from alpaca or similar. All paints are of course from regional, natural elements. Flowers, leaves and lines, in green, dark brown, white and russet red. Excellent patina and film from age throughout. Guaranteed authentic and not a repro.
Guaranteed genuine primitive native artifact. Comes with original Peruvian styrofoam cooler box it was sent to me in years ago (early 2000’s). Has age and wear associated with an item a hundred or more years old, that typical collectors feel add to the value of an item. See listing description and all photos for details.
