Rare Antique Napoleon III Gold Gilt-Bronze – Empire ‘Bellier’ Ram Headed Incense Burner (brûle-parfum) – Censer, Made in France

Antique Gold Gilt-Bronze Empire ‘Bellier’ Ram-Headed Incense Burner (brûle-parfum), Censer. Made in France, mid 1800s. Gilt-Bronze (real gold over bronze). Rare and unique piece, you are unlikely to see it again. All is original, even right down to the screws holding it together. Not welded. Solid and very heavy!

This piece is an AMAZING work of art, likely only to be seen in a museum.

It has four ram-headed legs, and hooves. This looks amazing on an altar and can be used with incense cones or loose incense. If you use it for burning, I would suggest using sand to protect the lining. It seems to may have been used only once as a burner.

Stunning piece of exceptional quality. Excellent antique condition considering its age. I do regret that at some point someone removed the plate for the inside roughly and sawed through rather than removing it properly – this part needs some light restoration. The edges are jagged on it.

Cleaned but unpolished. The gold is tarnished and faded, but still reflects the light. very ‘bronzey’ even after cleaning. The legs are in good shape, one has a slight bend and the hoof does not lay flat. It still has serviceable screw holes and should be mounted on marble, which must have broken many years ago. The top piece as the handle moves as the screw is not tight.

If fully restored, I expect it will be worth several thousand more. No makers mark I can discern.
