Each candle holder features a historic runestone from the Viking Age. It is the ideal decoration or altar piece, with the ability to be hung on the wall, or placed on a shelf. Each item comes with a free booklet that explains some historical facts about the original runestone, with a translation of the runes into English. The holder is approximately 10″ tall, 4″ wide, and 4″ deep.
Oak is a wood that is often associated with Thor, including groves of oaks that were dedicated to Thor and quite likely had rituals performed within these groves. It is a hardwood, with strength and lasting qualities. Many long houses and halls were constructed from oak due to its strength and durability against long winters and harsh weather. In addition, oak was a preferred wood to construct longships, including the famous Oseberg ship, due to its ability to bend with the waves without cracking.
Based in the Pacific Northwest with roots in Scandinavia, I am an artist and craftsman with a passion for history, nature, and artistic expressions in everyday objects. Each engraving in this shop was hand drawn using the original runestones as inspiration, with some artistic embellishment where time or weather has eroded the original stones. Each item that you will receive was personally crafted by me with time, care, and attention instilled in each item.
